Physicians for Human Rights at LKSOM is a student-run chapter of the national Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) organization dedicated to advancing health and human rights locally and globally. We bring together medical students passionate about social justice, advocacy, and the ethical responsibilities of health professionals. Our chapter engages in educational events, advocacy campaigns, and service initiatives that address issues such as asylum and refugee health, torture and trauma, mass incarceration, reproductive justice, and racial and structural inequities in health care. Through lectures, workshops, research opportunities, and collaborations with community partners, we aim to equip future physicians with the knowledge and skills to recognize human rights violations, document their health impacts, and advocate for affected individuals and communities. We also connect students to regional and national PHR networks, including mentorship, trainings, and opportunities to contribute to asylum evaluations and other human rights projects. All students interested in human rights and medicine—regardless of background or prior experience—are welcome to participate.
