Can international students get a physical Venmo card

Yes, an international student can get a physical Venmo card, but only if all Venmo identity requirements are met. If you already meet the requirements, you can request the card directly in the Venmo app.

Venmo Card Eligibility for International Students

The Venmo card is a physical debit card linked to your Venmo balance. Venmo does not look at your visa type, but it does require specific U.S. documents. The card becomes available only after your account is fully verified.

  • U.S. phone number: Must be a real carrier number (not a virtual app number). Venmo sends verification texts.
  • U.S. bank account: Needed to set up and verify your Venmo account. Most students use Chase, Bank of America, or credit union accounts opened with passport and I‑20.
  • Government ID Venmo accepts: This is the main challenge. Venmo usually requires a U.S. government ID such as a state ID or a U.S. driver’s license. A foreign passport is sometimes accepted, but not always.
  • SSN or ITIN: Venmo normally asks for the last 4 digits of an SSN to finish identity verification. Some students succeed with an ITIN. Without either, the system often fails identity checks.

If any of these items is missing, you can still use the Venmo app to send/receive money, but you usually cannot get the physical Venmo card.

If You Already Meet All Requirements

The process is simple once verification is approved:

  • Go to the Venmo app menu.
  • Select Venmo Debit Card.
  • Choose the color and confirm your address.
  • Venmo mails the card to your U.S. address in about a week.

After the card arrives, activate it in the app and set up reloads from your bank if you want automatic top‑ups.

Important Notes

  • No impact on immigration status: Using Venmo or the Venmo card has nothing to do with your visa.
  • Do not use VPN during verification: Venmo may flag your account for unusual activity.
  • If verification fails: You usually need to upload clearer photos or bring a U.S. state ID later.

In short: international students can get the Venmo card, but only after meeting the same U.S. identity checks as domestic users. If all your documents are in place, getting the card is quick and straightforward.
