ExploreNo, Cash App cannot fully verify or activate a personal account using only an ITIN. It currently requires a valid Social Security Number (SSN) to unlock all features, send or receive higher amounts, or use most banking functions. If a person has an ITIN but no SSN, they can still use only limited parts of the app, but verification will stop at a certain point.
Cash App works in partnership with regulated U.S. banks. These banks must follow federal laws to verify every user’s identity. This process is called KYC (Know Your Customer). Under these laws, they must collect something that proves a person is legally identifiable in the U.S., which in most cases is the SSN. The app uses it to confirm legal name, date of birth, and sometimes to check financial history or prevent fraud.
If a person is over 18, has a valid U.S. address, phone number, and bank account — but only has an ITIN — the missing SSN still prevents full verification. Cash App’s terms currently do not allow ITIN as a substitute. Even if everything else looks fine, identity verification will stop until the person provides an SSN.
Cash App’s system is built around SSN verification. An ITIN alone does not give full access. Unverified accounts remain limited, and the app may eventually require SSN before allowing further use. Those without an SSN should look at banks or payment services that support ITINs, which are built to serve non‑citizens safely and legally.
