What is the minimum age to use Cash App

The minimum age to use Cash App is 13 years old. However, there are two different situations depending on your age.

  • Ages 13–17: You can open a Cash App account only with a parent’s or guardian’s approval. The adult must be at least 18, already have Cash App, and give consent through their own account. Without this approval, you cannot send, receive, or spend money.
  • Age 18 or older: You can open and use Cash App fully on your own, as long as you meet other requirements.

Details if all other requirements are met

If you are 18 or older and meet all Cash App requirements (for example, having a valid phone number, email, and U.S. residency), you can:

  • Verify your identity: You must provide your full legal name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN). This is required by law to prevent fraud and confirm you are a real person, not a duplicate or underage user.
  • Link a bank account or debit card: This allows money in and out of your Cash App. U.S. banks are supported; international accounts are usually not.
  • Access all features: Once verified, you can send, receive, and withdraw money, use a Cash Card (the Visa debit card connected to Cash App), and deposit checks or pay bills when available.

If under 18

For users aged 13–17, the parent or guardian becomes the supervising account. The adult can see account activity and has to approve the Cash Card. Without their continued consent, Cash App may close or suspend the teen’s account. There are also spending limits until age 18.

Important reminders

  • Never use false information: Cash App will eventually verify your identity. Using someone else’s SSN or birth date can get both accounts permanently banned.
  • VPNs and foreign phone numbers: Cash App works only in the U.S. and U.K.; using a VPN or a non‑U.S./U.K. phone line can block registration or cause freezes.
  • Student tip: If you recently moved to the U.S. and just turned 18, wait until your SSN or ITIN is active, and make sure your bank account has your legal U.S. address before linking.

In short: you must be at least 13 to open Cash App with adult approval, and 18 to use it independently. Once verified, an 18‑year‑old has full access to all standard features.
