Can non US citizens use Venmo

Non‑US citizens can use Venmo, but only if they meet all of Venmo’s identity and location requirements. Citizenship does not matter — what matters is having the right documents, phone number, and banking setup. If you already meet everything, you can use Venmo normally without problems.

Who can use Venmo

You can use Venmo if all of the following are true:

  • You are physically in the United States when using the app. Venmo blocks usage from other countries, even with a VPN.
  • You have a US mobile phone number that can receive text messages. Numbers from other countries do not work, and VoIP services sometimes fail.
  • You have a US bank account or debit card to connect for sending and receiving money.
  • You can pass identity verification, which usually means providing your full name, date of birth, address, and either a Social Security Number (SSN) or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Venmo asks for this to prevent fraud.

If you are a non‑US citizen without an SSN

You can still use Venmo if you have an ITIN and your documents match your bank account information. Without an SSN or ITIN, Venmo will eventually limit your account and you will not be able to send, receive, or withdraw money.

Visa type does not matter as long as you can verify your identity. Students and workers commonly use Venmo without issues once verification is complete.

If you already meet all requirements

You can sign up and use Venmo like any other user. A few practical reminders:

  • Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your bank account to avoid verification delays.
  • Keep your phone number active. Losing your US number can lock you out.
  • Avoid VPNs when logging in, or Venmo may flag your activity.
  • Expect verification within the first weeks; it is normal and not a sign of trouble.

As long as your identity can be verified and you stay in the US with a working US phone and bank account, Venmo works smoothly for non‑US citizens.
