How Rentaba works
Exactly how we verify your rent, and exactly what we report.
Eight steps, in order, in plain language. This is the same process we documented for the credit bureaus.
Read our Trust & Compliance page- Verified through Plaid
- Reports to major credit bureaus
- Metro 2 format
- FCRA furnisher standards
- On-time payments only
- Philadelphia, PA
01Step
You verify your identity.
You sign up with your email and verify who you are through Plaid Identity Verification, the same identity check used by major banking apps. We don’t run a credit check, and signing up never touches your credit score.

Identity verification through Plaid 02Step
You connect the bank account you pay rent from.
You connect your bank through Plaid Link. The connection is read-only: we can see transactions, we can never see your login, and we can never move money. We accept checking accounts at FDIC-insured banks and NCUA-insured credit unions, and we match the name and address on the account to the name and address you gave us. At partner universities, we verify your housing directly with the school instead, so there’s no bank account to connect.

Bank connected, read-only 03Step
You add your lease.
You upload your signed lease or housing agreement. We check that it names you as the tenant, that it’s current, and that the address and the monthly amount match what you told us. Then we confirm those details with your landlord or property manager once. Your landlord doesn’t sign up for anything and doesn’t report anything.

Housing details 04Step
We confirm you’re eligible.
Before we report anything, we look for at least three on-time rent payments in the last six months in your connected account that match your lease. We also check that no one else is already reporting rent for your address, so you never end up with a duplicate on your file. One rent account per person, for your primary residence.

05Step
We report every month.
Each month we match your rent payment in your bank account to your lease and include it in our monthly file to the credit bureaus, in the Metro 2 format that banks and lenders use. We report on-time payments only. A late or missed payment is never reported. New accounts usually appear on a credit report within a month; some bureaus require three consecutive months of verified payments first.

Monthly reporting history 06Step
Retro Boost: your past rent, if you want it.
With Retro Boost, we look back up to 24 months on your current lease, find each on-time payment in your connected account, and show them to you. You confirm each one before we report it. One-time $49.95, added from your dashboard after sign-up.

Retro Boost eligibility 07Step
If something’s wrong, you dispute it.
If anything we reported looks wrong, email dispute@rentaba.co or dispute it directly with the bureau. We investigate and respond within the timeframe the Fair Credit Reporting Act requires, and we correct anything we got wrong.

Dispute a report 08Step
You can stop any time.
Withdraw your consent from your dashboard and we stop reporting. We close the account at the bureaus, and the on-time history already on your file stays there. You can re-enroll later (California residents wait 6 months, as state law requires).
