What we report.
We report one thing: your on-time rent payments for the home you live in, verified against your lease and your own bank account. We report them to the credit bureaus every month in the Metro 2 format. Each report carries the account open date, the monthly amount, and that the payment was made on time.
What we never report.
We never report a late or missed payment. We never report your balance, your bank account details, your income, or anything from your bank that isn’t your rent. We never report anyone other than you, and we never report rent for a property you don’t live in.
Your consent.
Nothing is reported until you’ve read and agreed to our Consumer Data Sharing Agreement and given us your explicit permission to report your rent. You can withdraw that permission from your dashboard at any time. When you do, we stop reporting and close the account at the bureaus. The history already reported stays on your file.
How we verify.
Identity through Plaid Identity Verification. Bank through Plaid Link, read-only, at FDIC- or NCUA-insured institutions, with the account owner matched to you. Your lease, checked by a person and confirmed once with your landlord or property manager. Three on-time payments in the last six months before the first report. At partner universities, verification is with the school directly. The full process is on our How it works page.
Security.
Your bank connection is read-only through Plaid. We never see or store your bank login, and we can never move money. Rentaba runs on SOC 2 Type II–audited infrastructure. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to your records inside Rentaba is limited to the people who need it to verify and report your rent.
Disputes.
If you believe something we reported is inaccurate, email dispute@rentaba.co with your name and the detail you’re disputing, or file the dispute directly with the credit bureau. We investigate every dispute, respond within the time the Fair Credit Reporting Act requires, and correct anything we got wrong.
Your data.
We use your data to verify and report your rent, and for nothing else. We don’t sell it. We share it only with the credit bureaus (to report your rent), with Plaid (to verify your identity and bank), and with service providers who help us run Rentaba under contracts that bind them to the same rules. We keep verification records for as long as the law requires us to.
Where your rent is reported.
Rentaba furnishes rental data to Experian RentBureau and is an approved TransUnion data furnisher; TransUnion reporting begins once onboarding is complete. We update this page the day any of that changes. (Last updated: October 2026)
