| Guarantees a score increase? | No — and no one can. Your score is a FICO or VantageScore model applied to your whole file at each bureau. Rent reporting adds a positive tradeline; what that does to your number depends on everything else in the file. That’s why this page shows you the first-year cost, not a points number. | Advertises “+40 points — average increase, results vary” (rentreporters.com, Nov 4, 2026). An average across their customers is not a guarantee, and they say so themselves. | Advertises “+38 points” as its “Average increase, starting at 550 to 600”, and that the first effect on your score “Shows up in 3 to 10 days” (rentalkharma.com, Nov 4, 2026). An average for one starting range is not a guarantee. | No specific points claim on their site (checked Nov 4, 2026). |

Competitor prices and terms from rentreporters.com, rentalkharma.com and rockthescore.com, checked November 4, 2026. Rentaba prices from rentaba.co. Rental Kharma’s standard plan is shown; it also lists other monthly prices and enrollment fees. Companies change prices; check each site for current terms. First-year costs are 12 monthly payments plus any set-up fee, and, where shown, the one-time past-rent fee. RentReporters, Rental Kharma and Rock the Score are trademarks of their owners. Rentaba is not affiliated with any of them.
What is the same
- All of these services report on-time rent to the credit bureaus every month.
- All of them can add past rent: Rentaba as a paid member add-on, RentReporters and Rental Kharma after the set-up fee, Rock the Score for a one-time fee.
- None of them can guarantee a specific score change. Results vary.
What is different
The set-up fee. Three of the four services charge one before the first month is reported, from $48 to $94.95. Rentaba charges nothing to start.
How rent is verified. Rentaba verifies through your own bank, so there is no landlord sign-up and nothing for your landlord to do.
Back reporting is your choice. Rentaba starts reporting from the current month. Members can add up to 24 months of past rent for $49.95 if they want it, and only pay for it if they use it.
Five questions to ask before you pay a set-up fee
Is there a set-up fee, and is it refundable?
A set-up fee is money you pay before anything is reported. Ask what happens to it if you cancel in month two.
How is my rent verified?
Some services call your landlord. Others look at your bank account. If your landlord is slow, hard to reach, or changes often, bank verification removes that dependency.
Does the company report your rent directly?
Ask whether the service is itself a certified data furnisher to the bureaus or sends your data through a third party. Direct reporting means fewer hands between your payment and your credit file.
What does past rent cost, and is it optional?
Some services bundle it into the set-up fee whether you need it or not. Others let you decide later.
What is the exit?
Look for “cancel anytime” and for what happens to the tradeline when you stop. With Rentaba, if you withdraw consent we close the account at the bureaus.
Who each kind of service suits
If you want the lowest first-year cost, no landlord involvement, and the choice to add past rent later, Rentaba is built for that.
If you already use a credit-builder product that includes rent reporting, check whether paying twice is worth it. Two services reporting the same rent does not help.
Questions people ask
Is rent reporting worth it?
It depends on what is already on your file. Rent reporting adds a monthly on-time payment history where there was none. It cannot promise a score change, and results vary.
Can I switch from another service to Rentaba?
Yes. Sign up, connect your bank, and reporting starts with the current month. Members can add up to 24 months of past rent for $49.95 if they want it.
What happens to my old tradeline when I cancel another service?
That depends on the other service’s policy, so ask them before you cancel. Rentaba can only speak for Rentaba: if you withdraw consent, we close the account at the bureaus.
Does Rentaba report late payments?
No. We report on-time payments only. A late or missed payment is never reported.
Which bureaus does Rentaba report to?
Rentaba furnishes rental data to Experian RentBureau and is an approved TransUnion data furnisher; TransUnion reporting begins once onboarding is complete. Equifax reporting is in progress and is not yet live. (Last updated: October 2026)
Why does Rentaba not promise a score increase?
Because no one can. Scores depend on everything else on your file. We show you exactly what gets reported and when, and leave the promises out.
Switching from another service?
Sign up, connect your bank, and reporting starts with the current month. If you want your past rent on file too, members can add back reporting of up to 24 months for $49.95.
