Can Cash App be used by minors

Cash App cannot be used by minors. You must be at least 13 years old to open an account with supervision, and 18 or older to have a fully independent account.

If you are under 18

Cash App allows teens aged 13 to 17 to use it, but only with approval from a parent or legal guardian. Here’s how it works in practice:

  • Supervised account: The teen creates a standard Cash App account. When trying to verify their age, the system will ask for a parent’s or guardian’s consent.
  • Verified adult link: The adult must already have their own verified Cash App account and agree to supervise transactions.
  • Parental oversight: The supervising adult can see the teen’s activity and can pause or close the teen’s access anytime.

Until this approval happens, minors cannot send or receive money, order a Cash Card, or use direct deposit. Cash App will block these features automatically.

If you already meet all requirements (18 or older)

Adults (18+) can use Cash App freely if they complete verification. To confirm your identity, Cash App will ask for:

  • Full legal name, date of birth, and last four digits of SSN: SSN stands for Social Security Number, a government ID number used for tax and banking verification in the U.S.
  • A valid U.S. phone number and email: Needed for login and account recovery.
  • A U.S. residential address: P.O. boxes usually do not work.
  • A U.S. bank account or debit card: To send and withdraw money properly.

Once verified, you can send and receive payments, get a Cash Card (a debit card linked to your Cash App balance), enable direct deposit for paychecks, and even invest or buy bitcoin. Keep in mind Cash App is for personal use; using it for business payments or holding large amounts long term isn’t recommended.

Important warnings

  • False information: Entering a wrong birth date or SSN to bypass the age limit violates Cash App’s Terms of Service and can permanently block the account.
  • Shared devices: Never share your PIN or verification code, even with friends or relatives, especially if you are a minor using a supervised account.
  • Regional use: Cash App works only in the U.S. and U.K.; other countries can’t send or receive money through it.

In short, minors can only use Cash App through supervised teen accounts, while adults who meet all legal and verification requirements can use all features independently and safely.
